Projects under Convening Organizations, 2010



Many of you have wanted to individually sign up for Celebrating Victory through Volunteerism this year. Following are a list of projects to be conducted by convening organizations and is open to everyone who wishes to participate. Please contact the coordinator of the project you're interested in to volunteer (or follow specific instructions given).

1° Initiative (www.facebook.com/1difb) 
  • On 16 Dec, 1dI - in partnership with North Alpine Club Bangladesh - will build and facilitate a themed adventure camp for 200 children from all walks of life. Musa Ibrahim - the first Bangladeshi to summit Mt. Everest - will be conducting an exclusive workshop on mountaineering and adventure; while BUET Drama Society and IUB Theatre will perform street dramas to shed light on the history of the Liberation War. The camp aims at teaching children important values such as teamwork, sharing and anti-littering in the process. Venue: BIM, 4 Sobhanbag, Mirpur Road, Dhanmondi, DhakaTime: 8am to 1pm (Volunteers report at 7am)
  • On 16 Dec, 1dI will be organizing a medical camp for 1000+ patients at Agargaon slum. The camp will be jointly facilitated by students from Alok Shishu Shikkhaloy - a school for underprivileged children - where senior students will volunteer and step up to active citizenship, and offer free medical check-up to their communities.Venue: Alok Shishu Shikkhaloy premises, Agargaon Slum, DhakaTime: 8am to 1pm (Volunteers report at 7am)

Community Action (www.facebook.com/communityactionbd)  
  • On 14 Dec, Actioneers will go to the "Baptist Mission School for Blind Girls" at Mirpur at 3 pm. We'll have a short two hour program where we spend quality time with them. We'll also arrange Braille books for them, since the school authorities say they don't have adequate Braille books.
  • On 16 Dec, from 10 am to 2 pm Actioneers will be at "Shondeepon" in Rayerbazarraising awareness on hygiene and moral issues through creative stories and songs amongst a hundred slum children.

Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI) (www.facebook.com/byei.org)
  • Bangladesh Youth Environmental Initiative (BYEI) is joining the initiative to fight for victory against the vices of environmental pollution, poverty and illiteracy under the banner Celebrating Victory through Volunteerism. On 15 Dec, BYEI is taking the noble initiative of distributing free warm-clothes and medicine amongst the'Climate Refugees' in cyclone AILA and SIDR affected regions.
